Hie thee to the hospital

Alison has been bad, or more correctly her body is not cooperating. So she is now in the hospital for fluids, PPN/TPN, and tests. She was unable to eat or drink anything without paying too high a price. She is still reading comments, but is one sick lady.

Sending you healing vibes. Take care, Alison.

Comment by Julie 01.22.09 @ 9:07 pm

Oh, shoot! I was just talking about you in the car tonight, saying how you were a little better each day. Guess that calls for a rousing chorus of “Liar, liar, pants on fire!”

When you need to be there, you need to be there. Let them take care of you, and try to turn to a different position every once and a while to maintain skin integrity. (This has been your nurse commercial for the evening.)

Hugs and love!

Oh dear – please get better – I’m praying and crying – and will be thinking of you

Oh dear! I don’t know what PPN is but hope it helps. I keep worrying that she will need to be transfused because of all the blood loss. I still wish I could donate some good T-cells.

I’m still praying and hoping. Alison needs to keep tapping into our prayers! Please give her my love and a hug. Same for you, Richard and Mom too. Be strong!

Love & Hugs,
Gretchen

I know you wanted this recovery to work from home but I’m awfully grateful that you have access to arguably the finest medical resources in the world. Hope there are some beautiful plants and artwork to look at while you’re there.

Comment by LynnM 01.22.09 @ 11:51 pm

Representing the night shift . . . we’re out here praying for ya! Hope the IV will help keep your fluids up for a while. Hang in there!

Comment by AlisonF 01.22.09 @ 11:53 pm

Oh my, I know that the IV is necessary, and hope that you have your loved ones nearby. If she is at Stanford, I have a friend who is a chaplain there sometimes, let me know!

Comment by Renee 01.23.09 @ 12:21 am

I was just talking about you to some knitting friends. You are in my thoughts often. I will pray that the hospital visit is short and very helpful.

Comment by sonya 01.23.09 @ 1:34 am

All issues around getting the Humira have been resolved. The first 90 days are here, and for the moment the coverage issues are resolved. Now we just need find out why she is so sick, and give her body a chance to heal.

Comment by rich 01.23.09 @ 3:31 am

Hey Alison, I hardly knit these days as you know, but I have been knitting. Why? I think of each row I knit as an added prayer for you. If I knit one more row it brings you closer to knitting a row. Then I say my prayers for you. I am sending them all the way from here. I miss you. I will keep knitting for you. I hope you will be home with your family soon.

Comment by Vicki 01.23.09 @ 3:52 am

Alison, I am thinking about you and hope that you get well very soon.

Comment by Peggy 01.23.09 @ 4:05 am

I was afraid of that after no update posted until now. Hang in there, all.

Comment by Amanda 01.23.09 @ 4:16 am

Alison, I’m so sorry to hear that you continue to be so sick. I will continue to pray that God takes good care of you and returns you home soon to your loving family.

Thank you, Richard for keeping us posted and thank you to you, Richard, and Alison’s Mom for watching over her.

Hugs, Alison. I think of you often througout the day!

Sending images of healing, health and strength flowing in with the IV fluids.

And a lovely little amaryllis (crimson like an evening grosbeak’s chest, with a cream centre, inside leaves curled just the tiniest bit at their base) is shouting “it’s going to be ok” from the windowsill.

Comment by Gaby 01.23.09 @ 5:32 am

Thinking of you, Alison. Surely it must be time to start feeling better soon!

Comment by Elizabeth 01.23.09 @ 5:50 am

I appreciate this update. Thank the Lord for hospitals and their crews! I’ve been keeping my Goodman up to date on how you’ve been. This morning during his devotional I brought him your book. Honestly, he just doesn’t get into knitting, but your story surely touched him, and I know he’s praying for you and your family. Thank God for prayer.

Comment by Toni Smoky-Mountains 01.23.09 @ 5:54 am

Amarylisses unite for Alison! Mine has the second set of 4 flowers now.

In my mind, I am sitting there at your bedside, holding your hand, and praying with you.
I know there are brilliant doctors and nurses at that hospital. Alison, you are not allowed to let that Crohn’s/Lupus get on top of you!

Love you lots.

Comment by karin 01.23.09 @ 5:56 am

POOP! This is just a temporary setback, I’m positive of that. Keep hanging in!

Still praying…

Thank you, again, for keeping us updated. I keep hoping I will see a new post in Reader and it will be the one that says she’s out of the woods with this attack. As always, you’re in my thoughts.

xoxo

Comment by amy 01.23.09 @ 6:37 am

Dear Alison, I am keeping you in my thoughts and my prayers. I am also praying for the wisdom of the doctors to get you past this crisis. Love.

Comment by Sherry in Idaho 01.23.09 @ 6:46 am

Love you, darling, plus Richard & Alison’s mom (what is this most esteemed lady’s name?). Am I to hope that your immune system stays strong enough to resist all of those pernicious bugs pervading the hospital system, or relaxed enough to let you heal?

Also, for Richard & Crew — can Alison still ready all these messages while she is Inside? Or is there another way for us to more directly send our love and caring?

Prayers, as always, continue.

Comment by Kristine 01.23.09 @ 6:48 am

Shucks. (Which ironically, is rather easily typed as “sucks”…) Alison, you stay on my mind and in my prayers, and I look forward to the “out of the woods” post too!

Hi Alison:

I worked on your Concert Scarf last night and said a prayer for your good health with each pattern repeat. I know God is listening and you will be well soon. Sometimes the supervised care in a hospital environment is what a patient needs. They are able to control all your fluids and keep a keen watch on what your body needs. Love and hugs to you Alison. Stay strong you will get well. Bonnie

Comment by Bonnie 01.23.09 @ 10:54 am

I’m so sorry your body is angry at being fed! I hope Dr. Rubinstein can prevail upon your body to get rid of that anger very soon. I’m sending my very best wishes from Reno, and I’ll be sending them from wherever else I go, too.
