Wrapped in Comfort: Knitted Lace Shawls is a collection of sixteen patterns, each with its story of who it was designed for or what inspired it. The shawls are knitted top-down, worked back and forth, which is simpler to knit and to wear than the more traditional closed-circle construction. There are not the, to me, visually disruptive vertical breaks in the patterns in the way of a Faeroese shawl: they are what I went looking for and could not find, and now I present what I’ve come up with for others to enjoy. They can be worn open down the front in a V-neck style, or thrown over the shoulder like a stole, while giving the wearer a graceful curving shape both front and back.

There are four lace scarves included for those wishing for quicker projects. Also, the stitch count is given for the main motif in the body of each shawl for those wishing to knit, rather, a straight scarf or stole out of any of those patterns.

My great thanks to each of my friends who allowed me to include their stories in this book, and to Martingale Press for doing a superb job of pulling it all together. And to Donna Druchunas, who drew up the charts, a huge job, to complement my written instructions.
