I was musing, as the first skein ended at the second row of trees and I connected the next: this is the color of their car.
I figure when it’s the color they picked to present themselves to the world beyond their windshield, it’s a pretty safe bet they’ll like it.
And then I remember with bemusement the gold minivan of long ago that was the last one on the lot of that model on the last day of the year so the dealer was willing to cut the price to keep from having to pay inventory tax into the next year on it. It was okay enough; we took it. Remember when Chrysler minivans were infamous for bad transmissions? Maybe it wasn’t such a deal.
But a red electric car? That’s not a last-minute Iococaccamobile, that’s a point of pride in taking care of our children’s futures.
Let me speed this thing up a bit, shall I?

Sometimes when buying a used car, you end up with what color you can find, but yeah, seems like a good possibility!
Comment by ccr in MA 10.23.24 @ 6:38 amI suspect you are right. The first truck we bought was an immediate necessity (I started a new job that required it.) Took the least expensive model, no A/C, no carpet, and white. Not the smartest color for a work truck. The next car, I knew the color I wanted, willing to wait. Salesman kept finding the lighter blue. Nope. When he finally found the bright one, “Now I know why you wanted this one!”
Comment by DebbieR 10.23.24 @ 8:46 amI am thinking about various cars the whole family has had over the last ten years. I think ONE might have had a color choice. That small car (prior lease, good deal) was replaced by a small station wagon which could accommodate a car seat – and was the last remaining model available at the right price and location. Our car? Only remaining standard transmission in the region when we had to replace the one with the diesel engine. And Dani’s SUVs – both used …. which leaves only Miriam’s car – not sure if there was a choice there. No red in the entire list. Red is much more likely going to be a choice than our series of dark, dull or white cars…
