Forever after

It took me a day to find the words.

For those in the knitting community who may not have heard yet. Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, aka YarnHarlot, friend to all, welcomed her second grandchild and first granddaughter this week.

Two days later Elliot’s baby sister was gone from them.

My younger sister lost a baby at birth, with the scant consolation that she knew she likely would. His older brothers insisted still on a birth-day cake and blowing out the candles in his honor and memory.

Charlotte Bonnie.

Nicholas.

Part of who we love and are, they are with us forever.

When I read that on Stephanie’s blog I cried. They had been so anxiously awaiting her arrival and to lose her so soon after her birth must have been the worst thing in the world to them. My heart breaks for all those little lives lost and for the people left behind trying to pick up the pieces.

So very, very sad, on top of this trying time. I met Stephanie on a book tour about 7 years ago. I discovered her blog around 2003 and have followed ever since, so while I don’t “know” her, her writing have made me feel like I do. The tears are real. The Yarnharlot group on Ravelry is working to determine a donation in Charlotte’s memory.

I was speechless as well when I read the news. So sad..

I have been praying for them. I’ll add your sister to the prayer.

Actually, I have been praying for many people. We need all the good we can get, right?

Having lost a precious granddaughter just minutes after her birth, I wanted to express my condolences but there were so many on her blog that she would never see it. Prayers for all who need the comfort of knowing they will get to be with those loved ones again.

I started crying when I saw the news, and I want to cry every time I think of it. Just heartbreaking. As my mother said, babies aren’t supposed to die.
