The new grandson is due in a month.

His big brother came three weeks early.

My daughter-in-law’s mother had her kids early like that, too.

I figure I’ve got me about a week to finish this and everything else I can think of. And after all the decades of not wanting to knit baby sweaters or booties, of fighting too hard against the knitting-is-for-grandmas stereotype (I mean, I was ten when I started…) on my second go-round now of actually being a grandma I think I’m finally getting over myself; I can’t wait to knit a baby sweater after this afghan is done. There is hope!

(But just in case I waver, I’m outing myself. Again. Peer pressure: it’s a good thing.)

A line from the George Clooney movie, Up in the Air: “I stereotype. It’s faster.” Ha. Even though not all grandmothers knit, and not all knitters are grandmothers, I suppose we can make one generalization; most grandmothers who can knit, will knit for their grandbabies. That’s fair, right? (It’s all to do with demographics, my friend. It’s faster.)

Even before I had grands my son used to tease me and say I’d be the perfect grandma because I sit in a rocking chair and knit! Somehow I think it takes a bit more than that but my grand babies seem to love me to pieces and I love them even more! I’m looking forward to your new addition.

Beautiful color in that blanket – of course it needs to be a sweater, too!

Big Brother is Parker, yes? That’s really a BIG, big brother.

And I’m knitting for my niece’s baby due in late June. Putting an i-cord bind-off on an OpArt blanket. Taking forever. The blanket itself did, too, since I made the larger size. And raiding the gift stash for the rest since the shower is April 13.

Simply stunning. Knit on, and let the joy of grandparenting warm you when those silly sterotype-like thoughts come.

LOL. I know the feeling. I was never going to knit Christmas stockings; after all, my husband’s aunt did it for my kids and stockings are “not my thing”. But then Benjamin got married last summer and I thought “Why not make his wife one to match his?”. Now I’ll be stuck making them for their children and my girls’ children when/if any come along… and I’m looking forward to it.

Grandma knitting is in my future too.
