December 20 babies

Today, my mother turns 80. Eighty years from today, our grandson will too. Welcome, welcome to the world, little one. Happy, happy birthday, Mom.

Phone call 1 am: Kim’s water had broken. 4-something am: my husband texted as to whether there were any news yet? The phone rang a few minutes later, saying Little Buddy (his name so far) had arrived about 30 seconds ahead of that text.  5 lbs 7 oz, 18″. He’s a preemie, but not by much and all is well.

Note that I had given my son the hat the hospital in New Hampshire sent him home with when he was born, and I do believe that is it on his son’s head.

(Ed. to add, Nope–they’re still making the same generic hospital hat 26 years later.)

Grandchildren are the reward for not pinching off the heads of one’s children when they are teenagers. So very, very happy for you!

He shares his birthday with my son, Rob was born at 8:42 am weighed 8 lbs 2 oz. and was 22 inches long. The only boy in the nursery, with a head full of long brown hair and dark blue almost black eyes. The nurses spoiled him.

Congratulations, Grandma! How wonderful, he looks adorable. Our daughter was born on our second wedding anniversary. Our son was born on his grandmother’s 65th birthday. Two of our grandchildren were born on the same day three years apart. Gotta love it!

Congratulations! What a special present for you and your Mother!.
I managed to achieve similar thing with my so-far youngest. She was born on my Grandmother’s 88Th birthday. Grandma was the first person I called as soon as I was able to.

How very special!! I was born just a few hours after my mother’s youngest brother’s birthday was over, and six days before my father’s birthday.

Congrats to all of you, and what a great tradition to share the hat!

Comment by Channon 12.21.10 @ 9:02 am

Just adding my congratulations to the list. How wonderful that the generations are entwined and connected by birthdays and seasons this way! I’m also jealous, as I long for grandchildren myself, and neither of my children is doing anything to further that cause at the moment! I hope you’ll share all your stories of spoiling your grandson, so we can do it vicariously with you!

guess our little boys just decided this was the week, no matter what calendar we were keeping — he’s beautiful — so glad all is well with him even though he’s early (and I’m sure I wouldn’t know how to hold one so little! over 8 pounds seems to be the “norm” in our clan)

Merry Christmas grandma!!!

Comment by Bev 12.21.10 @ 9:47 am

Boy! Am I glad I got my two cents in last evening! But congratulations all around.

I was born the day before my grandmother’s birthday and always wished we had the same birthday! But we usually celebrated them together and that was always great!

Congratulations to Buddy’s parents, grandparents and Aunties and Uncles!

Comment by Kelli 12.21.10 @ 1:23 pm
