Alison is too out of it to post tonight. As one of the children said, “Another part bit the dust” I just left her side and she is pretty beat up. Believe it or not but she is frowning while she drifting in and out of it. The anesthesia knocked out her already bad hearing, but that seems to be improving slowly. They are trying to get her pain under control. She does not remember much of the day. They were happy with how it went. Maybe in a few days she will be, but not right now. Don’t expect much for a few days as she needs to recover. I will show her comments tomorrow if she is up to it.

Comment by Renee 08.05.09 @ 10:33 pmHi Alison, Normally as soon as I wake up, I check my mail and read the papers before checking blog updates, but today I went straight to yours to see how you are. I’m glad to read the surgeons are happy it went well. I thought of you when I flipped the calendar to August 6th. It’s “tomorrow.” Wishes for a quicker than expected recovery!

Alison, after tomorrow or Friday, every day will get better and better.
The yarn will wait patiently, as will we.
Perhaps you will be able to sketch a few ideas by Sunday. Remember Mr. Turtle. slow and steady :-}
Comment by Diana Troldahl 08.06.09 @ 12:07 amOh, I’m so glad to hear that the surgery was a success! Granted, successful surgery still feels awfully brutal from inside that body – I can only imagine… Please give Alison our very best wishes, and wrap her (gently) in those afghans so she knows how many of us are holding her in our thoughts.
Comment by Anniebee 08.06.09 @ 3:32 amThanks for the update! Sending my very best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Comment by RobinM 08.06.09 @ 3:51 amPlease pass on all of our love. She is in our prayers. Your job is the hardest – keeping her away from pointy objects till she back enough to knit.

Comment by Jody M 08.06.09 @ 6:32 amAlison was in my bedtime prayers. It was good to receive word of her with my morning coffee.
Anesthesia and hearing risk make me recall that my mother’s ear doctor always worried about anesthesia. It’s one of life’s trade-offs.
Hugs, Alison. We are all looking forward to having you out and about, handing out finger puppets.
Comment by Barbara-Kay 08.06.09 @ 7:19 amI checked just before I went to bed last night but I’m on east coast time. Thank you so much for posting the update.
I know only too well how the day after feels. It takes about 2 weeks before there is any recognition that having the surgery was worthwhile.
Sending healing prayers and wings to carry away some of the pain.

Comment by sjanova 08.06.09 @ 7:19 amAlison,
I am catching up with reading and commenting and I am sorry to be late with this. My thoughts are with you this time too. I hope for a quick and as little pain as possible recovery.
Denise
Comment by Denise 08.06.09 @ 7:25 amThanks for the update Richard.
I’m glad to hear that she was pretty out of it due to the pain factor. While any surgery is a painful, this one is a *real* pain in the butt.
Some of the pain meds may keep her really out of it. (My experience has been: morphine, zzzzz, huh?, morphine, zzzz, etc. Sleep is good while healing.)
Give Alison my love and let her know we are praying for her speedy recovery.
Karen (of the water turtles)

Comment by Ann in Marin 08.06.09 @ 9:21 amAnother set of get well wishes for Alison. Prayers and virtual hugs – very gentle ones – too. Hang in there, and thanks for the post on her behalf. . .
Comment by Pam 08.06.09 @ 9:24 amThank you for the update. I really do not expect to hear much from our sweetie for a few days. I am taking a couple days off from work, to knit, in her honor–every stitch a prayer
Comment by sherry in idaho 08.06.09 @ 9:33 amDitto what everybody said, ignoring Don’s jokes. I think there are rules against laughing while you are stitched or stapled in place.
I am almost glad that Karen (of the water turtles) made the PITB comment first. 🙂
Comment by Margo Lynn 08.06.09 @ 10:26 amThanks for the update, Richard (and for the smiles, Karen and Don). Alison, our hopes for a smooth and speedy recovery.
Comment by Gaby 08.06.09 @ 10:55 amThank you Richard, I love Alison, and I’m hoping for the very best recovery for her.
Comment by Mary 08.06.09 @ 11:13 amKeeping you all in my thoughts.
I find it especially apropos that today’s “Main” article on Wikipedia is on phagocytes:
“Phagocytes are the white blood cells that protect the body by ingesting (phagocytosing) harmful foreign particles… ”
Here’s hoping that Alison’s “Leuk” and his cousins do their jobs appropriately!
Comment by Deb 08.06.09 @ 11:37 amI was checking back for updates and comments and like Gaby, I think we need smiles even if Alison has to wait a few days before she checks Don’s jokes. I know she loves his jokes, and will be delighted when her husband shows them to her again when she is well in just a few days or so! Alison, you know there is joy and jokey online friendship when you begin to heal in a few days! It won’t be too long before you can add your comments to other blogs again.
Comment by LynnM 08.06.09 @ 12:39 pmShe has in a loopy dopy way scanned the comments, but she is still drifting in and out of it. I will post an update before I go to bed tonight
