No light, no water

And yet by golly it was time to grow, so there!

I found this under the sink of the kids’ bathroom last night, having no memory of putting it under there months before. Somehow it had decided it had waited long enough and it was just going to go do what it was born to do. I found the dried top of the stalk wrapped around the pipe under there like a cartoon of a guy in cowboy boots on the desert gasping, “Water!” at a mirage. And still–with only its inner reserves from last year’s careful care–there you go.

And yes, I’ve now cleared off the debris and added water. We’ll see what it can do now. I like this one. I’m going to baby it for awhile while it gets its strength back.

Wow, that’s quite a resurrection you’re planning! I visited my friend in Cupertino, so we made it to Purlescence, and had to buy some Socks That Rock lightweight. What a lovely store. My friend Liz says it used to be a needlepoint store, so the fiber tradition contiues.

Hi Alison,

I was checking around websites because I my server can’t get its e-mail working and found yours. As an amaryllis lover, you may appreciate this. I was in CVS (a chain drugstore) and they were blowing out all of their holiday stuff. I found 2 amaryllis bulbs in their box marked down to $.79 each! I snapped them up and took them home to find that they started to sprout and looked like albinos! I planted them, put them by a window and they are very green! I am hoping that they will bloom. I bought some as gifts before the Christmas but didn’t buy any for me. Hope all is well!
