Chatting under the fence

This popped up and grew from under the neighbor’s side of the fence to come and chat with the flowers on mine.   Seemed appropriate for the holiday weekend.imgp2590.JPG

Please do tell me what kind of flower that is? I have never seen anything like it.
(I would call it and Orchid Tree.)

I have no idea what they’re called. Anyone? I don’t think I had ever seen them before moving to California, but they’re used for thick borders all over the place here, with these huge leaves and tall flower stalks.

Ofcourse it would come over to visit with you!! I would if I lived closer. Also, it probably knew about your green thumb….and loving energy!

That is an Acanthus Mollis, common name Bears Breeches. They grow all over our yard, and I spent years trying to figure out what in the world it is, and finally saw one growing at the San Francisco Botanical Garden with a handy label.
