Book Day!

Today’s the day! Martingale is releasing my book, “Wrapped in Comfort: Knitted Lace Shawls” today. At last. I wrote it, I knitted every stitch (and then some), and they put it all together into a beautiful book, absolutely beautiful; I can’t tell you how pleased I am with what they did with it.

So, a little while ago, after trying to figure out how to knit a thank you without asking them the relevant questions, I finally sent off a note, cc’d to my two editors: Tina, you go ask Mary her favorite color for me. Mary, you go ask Tina. Color, and also shape. Don’t tell the other I asked, okay? It’s a surprise.

They told me they’d laughed and figured there was no way out of this one. (I just need to get myself to the post office. They’re done.)

One said pink. I can do pink, definitely. The funny thing is, when we went to take this picture, I didn’t even realize, when I picked up that little bunch of buds that had fallen off the bush there, that I was holding it as if to knit it. Hey, if there’s a way to knit a bush, I’ll figure it out.

Martingale didn’t pose any of my circular shawls quite like this, preferring to make sure you could see each one as clearly as possible–the shaping, how far around it reaches, etc, but this is how I tend to wear them. The smaller ones, or when the temperature warms up, I wear V-neck and open down the front.

One of the things I tried to do with the book, in giving the weight of the yarns used, was hope that people would feel comfortable using whatever brand and whatever fiber they personally have fallen in love with, rather than what I did. Take what you love and go play. Tina’s shawl

Congratulations, Alison! I look forward to seeing a copy of the book soon, and buying one as soon as the budget allows. 🙂

Congratulations–now how soon will it be in the major bookstores (B&N, eg)? I want a copy yesterday–I’ve been drooling in anticipation ever since I found your web log and the information that you had this book coming out.

My copy has been pre-ordered for awhile on Amazon– they say estimated date for me to get it is June 20-22. Anxiously waiting!

Woo-Hoo!! Congratulations! If I lived closer – a LOT closer – I’d take you out for dinner to celebrate. It’s so exciting – I can’t wait to se ethe book (which might take a while, as claims it hasn’t been released yet, but it’s ordered, so now I just have to wait).

I think I recognize that shawl. It’s beautiful!

Super Alison – hope this book gets into the stores in Canada soon – although my LBS (independent) will order anything I ask them too, provided the publisher will send it. Maybe Lene and I can think of some creative way of “taking” you out for a celebration.
PS: I love the way you wear your shawls – I sometimes find myself “flinging [Isadora-style] shawls and stoles” around myself.

Congratulations, Alison! I was lucky to see one of your gorgeous shawls in person — on your shoulders, at Stitches West. I look forward to the book.

WHoopEEEEEE!!! You worked hard on both the book and the son…nice to see them both!

Seriously…congrats…how about a virtual book tour?

Hey, amazingly talented lady!

My work-store doesn’t have a copy on order yet, but that doesn’t mean anything, as they are lame and don’t believe that people actually know the release date of knitting books; they have a week, and then I plan to special order it and refuse it, so that we just put it into stock, since I’m currently petitioning my local yarn store to carry a few copies as well!

I’ll keep you posted.

Congrats….can’t wait to see it!

PLEASE tell me the Strawberry Pie Shawl is in the book! I know I can get the pattern from your web site, but I’m hoping it’s in the book so that I can find it all in one place.

Thank you, everybody! Eva, I’m afraid the Strawberry Pie shawl isn’t in there. I have so many different shawls I’ve come up with, and just a few of them are in the book as it is. Thank you, though!

Congratulations on your book! I’m new to lace knitting (swatching my first shawl right now), and am very much looking forward to getting my hand on your book.
