I cornered the person in charge of the sign-up for taking soup and cookies to the Ronald McDonald House at church this morning and asked when the next time around was going to be.

I didn’t say that the last time I took a pot of soup there I’d made it in my stewpot, which spilled all over the car. I did say what I now had to cook the stuff in. It makes it a lot easier.

Heather (yesterday’s post) was delighted when I told her what I immediately planned to do with her old crockpot. And it was so much better than my old one…

…Which, when I described it to her, the bright orange and brown and flaking teflon interior, she grinned in recognition, Oh! My mom has one like that!

I had to laugh at my inner surprise–of course she did. From the ’70’s. Hadn’t I noticed I was getting older?

I was hunting through my closet for something and came across a pair of platform huarache sandals I wore in the 70’s that made my kids laugh til they cried! How could I have worn those 5 inch high soles and not break an ankle, they asked. Well, I very nearly did on multiple occasions! But it was the 70’s when crockpots were orange and brown!

On Facebook was an entry asking people whether they remembered certain pyrex baking dishes in their mother’s kitchen.

They’re in my kitchen.

I’ve got a couple older smallish crockpots that I use to make soup for our church soup lunch Sunday’s, then a larger one I tend to use for home making larger quantities. As they get older though, I find they don’t heat as well, so things take longer to cook.

Would your old crockpot be useful for dyeing yarn? At least if you know you aren’t cooking in it, you won’t worry about an “accident”.

My kids went in together and gave me an Instant Pot (brand name) which is an electric pressure cooker, crockpot, rice cooker, and makes yogurt. I still have a little crockpot I bought when we became empty-nesters but my old big one has been replaced big time.
