I guess it’s here to stay, because neither party wants to give it up, expecting to be in the minority at some point. But no one has to do the catheter anymore. I wish they’d at least make ’em stand up and talk till the cows come home.

I wish they’d make them stay relevant, and come up with topics of conversation relevant to their stance against whatever the bill is. If you feel strongly enough to filibuster, then you shouldn’t have any problems expounding for hours on why you’re against it. And if you can’t, obviously you don’t have THAT big an objection to whatever it is, and we can all move along.

Your grandma sounds like someone everyone just had to love. Love the title to the last line.

I miss my Gram so much. She could always pull out a great tale when we least expected and laughs would certainly follow! I love how your Gram dealt Strom another blow to his image!

A similar thing happened in the St. Louis Board of Alderman. A female Alderwoman had the floor and didn’t want to yield it and they wouldn’t recess so she could use the facilities. So her supporters held a sheet around her and she made use of a waste can (pun not intended) while she talked on and on. It created quite a stir in the city.

I agree with Serena. If they want to hold the floor, they should be relevant to the subject. And I hope you’re right, Alison, that if that new Mass Republican senator wants to retain his seat that he keep his democratic constituents happy. The Republicans ex,pect to gain seats in the coming election. I just pray that the electorate recognize this party, at this time, as the party of obstruction.

Unless she added more, your Gran wasn’t saying anything ill, just the facts. I’m with Serena, too. It’s horrible to pay time wasting politicians just to have them hold up voting.

An alternet commentator made the good point that most politicians want to be reelected….well, maybe excluding Sarah Palin. (I added that. Let’s hope Brown wants to appease the Mass. electorate and not become a Fox analyst.)

Sometimes, the third option is the one that helps things move along, progress. And I’m not refering to a catether either!

I just love grandmothers! Great story!

When I was in college, I lived in a dorm that was coed by floor, except on the top 3 floors where it was coed by room. The all female floors and the all male floors were equally pig pens and just plain nasty places; the mixed floors were much more civil, not to mention clean. I am hoping, hoping, hoping that a more evenly mixed Senate will all try to work together toward civility.
