Happy Birthday, Mom!

And me a December baby, too… (I wrap my family’s birthday presents in Christmas paper in April and June because if they get to do that, then I do, too.)

It wasn’t till we were halfway through that I realized we were serenading my mother over the phone just now with “Happy Birthday,” only, to the tune of “We wish you a Merry Christmas.”  (Quick! John! Everybody! Think up the same last line on the fly and sing it together as if we planned this!) …”We wish you a happy birthday,” (we looked at each other like, uh, oh, stumbling a moment to) “And the whole rest of the year.”

No, wait, we mean more than 11 days’ worth, we mean, like, for all of being 79, and and and…

Well, hey, she laughed.  That worked. Happy Birthday, Mom!

It’s a total hoot that you wrap your family’s birthday gifts in Christmas paper..too funny.

Happy Birthday to your mom, and that’s pretty good singin’ off the cuff. 🙂

My mother’s birthday was early May, so she always got one glove or slipper for her birthday and the other for Mother’s Day!

Amalie’s birthday also was in December, and she always got cheated in the presents department.

Fun –

Texas Beer Joint Sues A Church…!!
In a small Texas town, ( Mt. Vernon ) Drummond’s bar began construction
on a new building to increase their business… The local Baptist church
started a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions and
prayers. Work progressed right up till the week before opening when
lightning struck the bar and it burned to the ground.

The church folks were rather smug  in their outlook after that, until the
bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church was ultimately
responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect
actions or means.

The church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the
building’s demise in its reply to the court.

As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork…
At the hearing he commented, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to decide this,
but as it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes
in the power of prayer, and an entire church  congregation that does not.

Yes, they do grow up and they grow us up. And now it’s their responsibility to help us and our responsibility to let them. Happy birthday to your Mom and to you.

Happy Birthday to your mother! I’m sure the best present she could get is you enjoying Christmas in better health.

Don, love the story. Had to show it to Fr. Chad, too.

I think ‘and a wonderful year’ would scan too!

On December birthdays- my mom’s birthday was last week, and my sister’s the week before that. My mom *always* got the dreaded Christmas-and-birthday gift as a child (while her sister, with a June birthday always got double the presents). So when my younger sister was growing up, we always made a big deal out of the birthday separately from Christmas. Hey, party all month, we can do that!

My birthday is only a week after Christmas so I occasionally got the Christmas-birthday gifts wrapped in seasonal paper, but I never really minded. After all, some of the family members waited for the after Christmas sales and it gave me a second chance to ask for those things I didn’t get for Christmas.
