The repair guy is plumb-eting in the polls

Our neighbor across the fence once asked me if we’d lived in this neighborhood in ’55 when…

And I told her I hadn’t been born yet in ’55, much to her chagrin, judging by her reaction; my hair was grayer than hers, and I guess she’d just assumed…

But our house was.  Which is why today after I’d bleached and cleaned all three bathrooms (we added the third to keep our then-about-to-be-teenagers from killing each other) yet again after the second go-round on the plumbing we thought we’d finally fixed, I was not entirely Little Miss Sunshine today when the shower pans announced yet a third time that they really really needed a Zofran equivalent in their system.

I have my sister flying in from Washington State on Monday afternoon. We were going to wash the already-clean linens on the guest room bed, just to make sure they weren’t dusty.  Right now I would settle for being able to tell her she can use the bathrooms safely.

I will have a plane to meet.

And a plumber who should be making good on his short-term warranty, who came out last month, who doesn’t work weekends, and I’m too cheap to call someone else and we’re still trying to fix it ourselves.  It keeps starting to be okay and then–not.  So someone has to be home to meet the plumber Monday, assuming we’re still at it, and at round three, I think the squirrels are slapping their thighs and telling human jokes on us.  (They lost rounds two and three on the birdfeeder so far and could use the comic relief in the face of their dire deprivation.)

Happy almost-Father’s Day!  (Toilet snakes are a manly art.  No, no, I insist, Dear, go right ahead.)

(Edited to add:  So I did what any reasonable knitter would do: I blocked the seacell/silk shawl on that guest bed while I still could, keeping the rinsing water in the sink to the most minimum possible in doing so.)

Checking in just before I go to bed, and what a tale of woe! As the prospective arrivee, I hope this all works out. But I’m not putting this visit off again. Love ya!

Plumb-eting in the polls! What do you say to some one who can pun in dire situations! Or is that your native tongue?

I just hope you’re not plumb out of luck, and manage to keep the flood tide down until Monday.

And here I was hoping yoru would say something about falcons so I could slip in and say something like “For more birds, go to chippep.blogspot.com. In the number one spot ’til Monday. This commercial brought to you by…

But I guess I can’t say that now.

You feel stuck with your debt if you can’t budge it.

You’re getting old when you don’t care where your spouse goes, just as long as you don’t have to go along.

Middle age is when work is a lot less fun and fun is a lot more work.

Statistics show that at the age of seventy, there are five women to every man. Isn’t that the darndest time for a guy to get those odds?

You know you’re getting on in years when the girls at the office start confiding in you.

Yuck! Plumbing problems. No matter if they’re human or house, still yuck. 😉

So far so good this morning; go Roto Rooter juice. When everybody’s finished taking their showers, I’ll try to wash the towels from the cleaning-up–which is the point where it all went bad the last two days. I’ll keep the water level low and hope it continues to pipe down.

Like Linda W. said, “Yuck.” What a Crappy Father’s Day Chez Hyde. Hope everything else is more joyous!

Handling yummy yarn in any way will always brighten a day & mood:) Good luck with the plumbing. Prayers for safe travel for your sister & a wonderful visit.

I feel for ya. Our house was built in the 50’s and the plumbing is not up to the capacity of our washer. Oscar installed a half-way house for the water (a utility sink, with a ‘knee-high’ nylon filter) Which mostly works. Unless the filter is put on too loosely and stretches to become a stopper. (which happened Friday)
Things are MUCH better since we replaced the sewer pipe outside the house. Before that we had a very similar problem in the bathroom.
My grandparents had a 4-seater outhouse in use until I was 11. (they had a dozen kids). Sometimes that just seems easier, but city-folk would likely object :-}

Oh, the joys of plumbing. Not my favorite thing ever, I must say! I hope it gets cleared up quickly 🙂

Doesn’t sound fun at all. I do hope the plumber makes it all good tomorrow and you get to the airport without any additional complications!

Could it be your main drain needs cleaning? We had a back up which involved solid bits upchucking out of the washing machine drain in the basement…all over the washing machine and floor. I was really unhappy with the plumber ’cause I’d asked him to clean the main drain having seen a HGTV show telling us to do so if the drains are not used for even a few weeks. He did that condescending thing contractors can do to women…and perhaps men too. Told me it certainly did not need cleaning. After the upchuck, and subsequent main drain cleaning, he did help me clean up the foul water so I will use him again. And now maybe he’ll be more amenable to suggetions…

I like the way the work gets divided up: him-the plumbing; you – the blocking. Hmmm….which leads me to a wild guess: too many fuzzies from yarn down there?

I hope it all is fixed very soon.
