Julia shawl, faster version, Wagtail 1 skeinThe Julia shawl blocking, the faster version with fewer stitches on larger needles because I only had the one skein of Wagtail kid mohair to try to stretch as far as it would go. Length 23″ lying flat, width somewhat scrunched up right now for the blocking process–it’ll be more of a circle than it looks here.

The closer I got, the more I wanted to finish this tonight, after having gone through the stash Monday night looking for this yarn to wind up and get started with. The ends can get woven in tomorrow, I’m turning in after I finish icing my hands. (Got a pack on right now; it does make for awkward typing.)

The thrilled gratitude on that nurse’s face gave me my knitting enthusiasm back by reminding me how much I love doing this. That it’s not all about the work aspect of it. It’s about seeing someone else becoming happy. I owe him.

(It’s not quite that late, the clock on this blog is an hour ahead of me.  Pardon me while I go adjust those wires and sharpen those points.)

Teh shawl looks like Angel Wings in the photo. . .did you plan that? Oh, and BTW, I loved reading “the rest of the story” from Monday in your previous post!

So you made that in 4 days???!! very amazing. It looks so pretty. I’m still fairly intimidated to block a shawl.

Alison on Ice–it sounds like either a spectacular show, or an exotic dessert.

Nope, Allison–two days, really. I cast on Monday night, did the first few rows, dropped a stitch, tried to retrieve it–that yarn’s a bit wiry and energetic, I was tired, and I finally just threw it to the side and read my Newsweek cover to cover.

So the next day at Creative Hands, someone in the shop asked me what I was doing. Tinking. Going back several rows to fix that, meaning I spent as much time as if I’d simply frogged the whole thing and started over. So essentially it was just Tuesday and Wednesday to knit the whole shawl, but then, at 241 stitches/row/in the body, it’s the fastest one in the book by far.

As for blocking, you can just rinse it and lay it out to dry if you don’t mind a round hem to it rather than points.

ok, I’m impressed, no way I can make a shawl in 2 days, lol! It takes me about 2 weeks to do a pair of socks :-)Your shawl is lovely by the way

It is so beautiful! Such a gorgeous colour! You inspire me. YOu have to ice your hands and you still knit and finish projects. I can knit if I am tired and make a little progress. We found a new way to school, less traffic, so we can leave later, I may be able to stop and read a little in the mornings, yippee!!!

Just came over for a gander as I do every now and then, and even this caught my attention! It’s very dramatic, Alison. Nice work.
