They were just helping

I remember wondering as a kid how on earth a measure of fruit–or Peter Piper’s famously pickled peppers, for that matter–could come in…pecks. Who thought of that word and put it in that context? So strange.

After gleaning these from the ground (which, truth be told, is an easy way to harvest) with, if you turn them over and around, a single beak mark in each, I think I get it now.

Ha! each one was taste tested!
I remembered the song about a bushel and a peck and as a farm kid I know what a bushel basket is, so I had to look it up: The Difference Between a Bushel and a Peck. Both are a dry volume measure of quarts. A bushel is equal to 32 quarts, while a peck is equal to 8 quarts, or a quarter of a bushel. 1 bushel = 4 pecks.
Loving someone only a bushel and a peck isn’t actually all that much!
