The one overcome by grief, sunk down on his knee in the grass with a friend’s steadying hand on his shoulder, is the husband of my friend Chan, and that is her blog.
What happened in their town should never happen anywhere. Especially, absolutely, never in America. The actions of these few are a terrorist threat against everything our country aspires towards.
As Orrin Hatch put it, “My brother didn’t give his life fighting Hitler for Nazi ideas to go unchallenged here at home.”

Amen. Such an awful day, on so many levels.
I will never forget driving around Charleston, SC 30 years ago, early on a Sunday morinng, trying to kill some time before my flight took off. I saw what looked like the beginning of a parade, and thought I could stop and watch for a bit, just for something to do. Turns out it was a Klan rally. I was gobsmacked. In my northern, middle-class, white innocence, I didn’t think they existed any more. It was an eye-opening moment for me.
Comment by Pegi 08.13.17 @ 11:41 pmmy head screams for action, but my heart just hurts. despicable actions like this should never happen in a country that should be a prime example of equality and justice. how did we end up here – ignorance and inaction is how. how will be make it different – education and action. will that happen – your guess is as good as mine.
