So come on, come on and do the cocoa motion with me

You know that moment of discovery that feels so obvious, so brilliant, and so stupid all at once that you didn’t think of it before? Like, to a beginner, that you can knit normal back-and-forth on circular needles, it doesn’t have to be in a circle?

And then a little later I realized that of course I’d thought of it before, I just hadn’t in awhile because I don’t do this often enough. So. Cocoa that has been opened in a humid environment becomes lumpy; my chocolate torte recipe calls for mixing flour and cocoa together before adding them in and I’ve been smushing the lumps out with a large spoon for forever.

Except when I’m not. A wire whisk (duh), the dry cocoa and flour. Smooth now as, well, newly opened cocoa.

Meantime, a little showing off of Parker’s sweater. There would be a video of Hudson walking, too, if I could get it to work here. Later.

Knitting became so portable once I cottoned on to using circulars for regular back and forth knitting! And it’s fun to see the look of “Eureka” in other people’s faces. “Knitting, but not as we know it, Jim.”

And in cooking, once I realized just adding dill to mayonnaise was so much easier than messing with recipes needing cream when I poach salmon…. why don’t people teach things like this?

Hey, Parker likes his crane sweater! Hope he’s careful with it so Hudson can wear it one day too, or you’ll have to make another one!

Oh, I’ve got a better one (not better than the whisk, but better than the mayo): the realization that you DON’T need to search the whole house for the cable needle the cat probably batted under the piano or sideboard or settee, when a dpn right in front of you would hold that stitch just as easily. Live and learn.

I think the collective “they” now call that moment #facepalm. I have them all the time!
That Parker is a CUTIE!

I remember the look on my students face, in January, when I gave them their kit to knit a cowl – straight but on circular needles. I had to explain my thought process more than once. lol

Thank you for making me smile!
