Double it.
If you stick the knitted yarn in a freezer (in a plastic bag) it helps to un knit it the next day.

Can you double it with something else so you still get the lofty warmth, but can use your 6’s? Cashmere? no-so-finely-spun silk? Or do double knitting with something else on the outside 🙂

I agree with Anne — if you’re going to double for warmth, how about with something like silk

I’m with the “don’t”s.
Your exquisite qiviut lace weight will be lighter knit singly and knitting needs to be a joy, not the project that caused you the most pain. I don’t know if it’s in your nature to keep a project as very long term but this sounds like a few rows now and again would make you proud of the result and happy to create it. It’s cold in Alaska for a long time. Happy Groundhog Day pressie?)
(I just knit some Malabrigo Worsted Merino mitts on 4.5mm light bamboos. When they say it’s like butter, it is! Try it. And speedy!)

Oh, I feel badly for your hands, but I’m with the don’ts…BUT, it’s going to be lovely (and loved) either way, because every stitch will be full of love. 🙂

I hate to become part of a majority, but I think I am, in this case. And it’s time to drop out of monogamous knitting. You need to have two projects going so you can do a row/round on this and then move to something else. It will still be cold there, probably almost forever. Sigh. I am not a winter, darkness and chill, person. (Sitting here with my suri alpaca shawl over me. And all the lights on.)

I’m glad plenty of others have weighed in. Light and warm is sometimes the most wonderful thing. You can do thick, fast and warm with something else wonderful…

Don’t. I’m with them. The lightest weight hat I have is also my warmest – it is angora/merino. Quiviut will be even warmer.

But do take care with those hands, please!
