The alarm rang at 4:28 this morning. There was a moment of mild panic when the printer refused to print her boarding pass.

Richard had the presence of mind at that hour to tell her she could present it on her new phone at the gate, getting it to come up for her so it would be ready.

Did you hear about the TSA recently confiscating someone’s cupcake because of the “gel-like substance” on top? Our citrus sponge cake went unadorned last night. I cut a big chunk at 4:45 to supplement her two-flight airline pretzel supply, ziplocked it, and off she went, returning to the land where water comes in white in the winter.

We were back from the airport while it was still the dark of the night and fell back into bed while we could.

Just for fun: the snowboarding bird. The size, beak and use of a tool look like the crow/jay family, but I’m not quite sure what it is. Anyone?

This is sooooo funny. A fun way to start my early, rainy morning.

I don’t like those early morning blips. Thanks for the reminder… I’ll have an even earlier flight coming up, and I’m not even the one with flight reservation information…

love the bird snowboarding — and he took his board with him when he left, so no doubt he’s looking for a slope with a better resort lodge!

(and we woke to snow this morning even though the weather witches said the storm was over on our side of the mountains — guess we moved over the mountain during the night!)

I read a followup story to the cupcake news that clarified and it made a little more sense to me. The lady was trying to bring a cupcake that had been baked in a mason jar, not just a regular cupcake. Since it was in a container that was larger than 3 ounces and had a gel-like frosting it was deemed suspicious. I admit it was still an odd case, but at least the TSA isn’t completely illogical.

I do love the way you put things, Alison; “the land where water comes in white in the winter” sounds almost beautiful enough to cancel out the cold that comes with it!

I LOVE that snowboarding bird! That must be a SnowBoard Bird.

The only thing even remotely close to that is Pepper sliding down his ladder ‘bannister’.

Honestly looked like a pigeon to me. Maybe a mourning dove?

“Ma’am, your cupcake is illegal”
“Oh, well, hang on a sec” ::gobbles cupcake::
“ma’am you are now filled with explosive potential, come with us”
“Indeed, do you know what this much fat will do to my insides?”

i thought it looked/acted like a crow or raven. the ones that live in Yellowstone have learned to open buckled saddlebags, if i remember a National Geographic story correctly.
