Riffing on the line “They are other nations” in the Henry Beston poem that Evet sent.

A Peregrine Fledgling’s Cry:

I fledge allegiance
to the clouds
in my excited state of euphoria
and from the nestbox
which in them stands
all Nature
under God
the whole world visible
now liberty!
and free-flight
for all time.

“Oh beautiful, for spacious skies …”

What else could I say?

Fun –

As any devout Catholic will tell you, going to confession allows people to get a lot off their chests. Maybe too much. One man, waiting his turn at the confessional, heard a priest admonish one penitent, “Please limit your confession to your own sins.”

I was sold at “I fledge allegiance.”

Reminds me of that Calvin and Hobbes “I pledge allegiance to Queen Fragg and her mighty state of hysteria…” (at which point Calvin gets carted off to the headmaster, obviously)
