Going to Rachel‘s in San Jose: “Did you get the GPS?”

“Nah, I’ll just use my phone.”

Showoff. Oh, wait, mine does that too?!

We finally gave in to the inevitable on our dying Sidekicks and bought new phones.  When you’re buying five cells, it’s like buying a car–you can’t just walk in and be done with it.  Even though we mostly knew what we wanted, Wednesday evening it took us three hours. The saleswoman laughed a bit ruefully when I gave out, gave up, plunked down and pulled out my knitting.

Richard had great fun later swiping his new phone at the barcode on a Safeway receipt and having it tell him where all the most-local sources were for that pumpkin can and what their prices were, telling me that his friend had written that Droid app.  Cool!

I got an LG env Touch, plenty for me. And I can now plug my hearing aids into my phone! I have always had to turn on the speakerphone and hold it (and hold it and HOLD it) right up at my ear.  I will actually be able to have a private conversation now?  And have much better sound quality from the phone itself, apart from the hearing aids?  This is going to be quite nice.

I told Richard I really didn’t need him to buy me any more birthday presents, we’d shot our wad.  Dirt. I need dirt. Dad sent me more amaryllis bulbs, Richard bought me a few too  (yay! Thank you!) and I just need some potting soil and a few pots.  I’m simple to please. (Wait–don’t look at that Touch when I say that…)

I’ll see Sunday if he agreed with me.

I’ve been coveting a new phone. At the department luncheon (where I always set next to the one and only Jehovah Witness and as the one and only Jew, we make snarky comments about Christmas decorations. Forgive us 🙂 I was admiring my seatmate’s (see above) new blackberry. She insisted that I would be happier with an i-phone. I would be happier with whatever costs the least! (But I still like those bells and whistles, sigh)

We got our Blackberries because Sprint was offering buy one/get one free — for a total of $49 after rebate! And yes, it took two hours to transfer and set up. And yes, I gave up and sat down with my sock knitting. You bring it all back to me! Guess I should dub those socks “the Blackberry socks”(even though the color wouldn’t suggest it). Heh!

Happy Birthday! Getting a new phone is always so much fun. I had not heard about the ability to scan barcodes…how cool is that!!!

Hooray! I’m so glad you and Richard both have new toys – er, phones (where’s that strike-out feature when you need it?)! Enjoy.

And a VERY happy birthday to you. I think in your honor, I shall plant the Amaryllis bulb MJ gave me this week. She gives me one most years, actually. (Shhh… I need to plant the one she gave me last year too, I’m afraid!)

And a Happy 39th birthday, young lady.

In the cell phone department, I went in the opposite direction — bought the simplest ones available from Jitterbug. Doesn’t even cook breakfast! What I DO like is thad Cliff and I can talk back and forth with no cost in minutes.

Humor –

No one expects a page turner when reports are written about rock formations for the Bureau of Land Management. But even worse was the snooze inducing title, “Ferrous Layers of Barbados”. Luckily the sub-title helped: Pyrites of the Caribbean.

Someone advertising on Craigslist said she was well suited for child care. After all, she had plenty of experience in “CPR and Choking Children”.

Very cool phones – bein’ you’re married to your tech-y mon (say it with a Jamaican accent, kinda fun) it would be a downright shame if you had the kind I have – a basic blah in black, no camera, nada, but mine rings good…lol. 😉

That sounds like an amazing app! My father in law would love it. He’s the guy who shops at five different stores to save ten cents.

Who asks for dirt for their birthday? lol

Enjoy the new phone and all the discoveries it permits. 🙂

when you say plug in, do you mean using your t-coil? Or is it something fancier?
