As everyone's said, they're coming to see you, and if you don't get everything done, they'll be politely oblivious to the dustbunnies waving from the corners. :)

Hello, my dear friend... I have been out of the blogland loop for some time, but I'm trying to catch up a bit. Sorry I have missed so much - I have missed you!

Reminds me of the time my daughter came home from school while I was cleaning the half-bath and she said, "Who's coming?"

The big thing is to let people get their own breakfast and lunch (and dinner? well maybe not dinner). It's not about the house or the food. It's about your happiness to see them--and that's all anyone remembers when they go to stay with you.

I've found that the most amazing things happen when I'm not trying At All. Reminds me that if I just get out of my own way things will work out.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm always happy to have new readers and commenters. That yarn you asked about, the undyed baby alpaca laceweight from Plymouth... 'soft' doesn't do it justice!

"Repaint the house and redo the driveway"? Are you nuts even thinking that's necessary? You know what, people are more comfortable if they know they can welcome YOU into their less than perfect home one day. Channon and TripletMom are right.

Of course, about the only time I DO clean is when a visit is imminent so maybe this is the kick in the butt you need and then won't clean until February. Whatever works for you (just don't think any guests will be judgmental or offended if your home is obviously lived in. Mattress pads for futons are always a good idea, though.)

The others have already said it, but it's not about the house, have fun, don't overdo, have fun ...

And speaking of fun --

OLD GOATS

A group of Americans were traveling by tour bus through Holland. As they stopped at a cheese farm, a young guide led them through the process of cheese making, explaining that goat's milk was used. She showed the group a lively hillside where many goats were grazing. "These," she explained, "are the older goats put out to pasture when they no longer produce." She then asked, "What do you do in America with your old goats?" A spry old gentleman answered, "They send us on bus tours."

Just remind yourself that they will be there to visit you, not your house! What good is it to make the house magazine perfect if it sends you to bed for the duration of their visit?

Do what you can & knit the rest ;)

Don't worry about lemon oiling the driveway, Martha. Just make a batch of microwave fudge and they will not notice anything else..
