Potter’ed plans

Okay, that last one was an in-joke among hearing aid users.  Those orange tabs are what you pull off the air-activated batteries before putting them in the aids. They made for longer fingernails than I’ll ever have; all my growing up, my piano teacher told me that if I showed up at her house with nails long enough to click on the keyboard, she would cut them or I would. Period.

To this day, long lovely fingernails are a spectator sport.

Meantime, (this is a picture from last summer, sorry I don’t have a newer one, Kris is wearing her Water Turtles shawl) yesterday I got to see Mel and Kris at a show in San Jose–I only went because they were there. You know, pottering around a little bit here and there but mostly spending my time catching up with them; I went in the afternoon when the crowds had died down quite a bit so we could visit and not have me be in the way.

And there’s a great story to it all.  But I can’t tell it yet. I know, I’m so mean…

I’m just a lurker most of the time in blogland, but I just had to let you know that the piano teacher comment made me laugh out loud. My piano teacher and I used to have little battles about my long fingernails and she showed up with a nail clipper on more than one occasion!

Tantalizing… let me guess, you found your favorite potters and bought a Christmas gift you can;t show yet?

Love the hearing aid battery tab fingernails. Shorter nails have ended up being a way of life for me – I do too much with my hands to have them longer, and despite in my youth having attended a hand care class (including how to apply nail polish -I scarcely do it, probably less than five times since the class more than 30 years ago), but it doesn’t stop me admiring other peoples – but it does have to be perfect.

Having short nails maybe a factor in why DH married me, that along with the fact that I didn’t own a blow dryer – he had to always fix his sister’s – he is an electronics technician and has often been roped into mending appliances for people (he hates it), I let my mother know, and she never asked him to be Mr Fix-It. (I now own a hair dryer – but in the 18 years or so that I have used it I have probably used it less than 30 times, and he has never had to fix it!

Thank you for explaining the fingernail post. I was scratching my head last night, but figured the story would come. And you tell a fantastic story.

My piano teacher used to say the same things–and he was a GUY! Horrors!

I can’t tolerate long nails to this day – the moment they click, they’re outta-here! It’s all those years of piano in our past that keeps us from being glamor gals. (I suspect long nails would get in the way with knitting, too.)

Well I’m a guy, and long fingernails are not for me. Because of my handicap I cannot trim my own nails, so I go to a manicurist. Every now and then she asks what color polish I want. Um, no thanks.

Thanks for linking to Carol’s Fingernail Friday. Amazing. My daughter loves long, painted nails despite playing the piano. It was her guitar teacher who made her trim them years ago.

I had to laugh at the fingernail story — my piano teacher was the same way, and to this day, I keep my nails short!

Ditto on the piano playing. It got so I would cringe if I heard one little click – I didn’t even have to be told, they were chopped for the next lesson. Thanks for sending my mind back to think of all my piano teachers. I loved them all except for one who insisted I play Bela Bartok. Yuk. I was/am a romantic and wanted Chopin and Beethoven. We did not understand each other at all!

You’re a riot! 🙂 (those orange tabs)

Well, you better hurry up with that story! jk 😉

Ohh! I get it now. 🙂

Hope you’re not too tuckered out from going to the show!
