A clean kitchen and a brain cell!

Today, the surprise box was for Richard.  It looked to me at first like something maybe from the Monterey Bay Aquarium?  From Sam again, this time trying to replenish her father’s brain cell supply.  (Well, dear, see what happens when you tell your wife to blog it? Heh.)

Meantime, I reluctantly admitted to a friend who asked me that, yes, we could indeed use some help; Michelle’s on crutches and can’t stand for very long, and Richard had minor surgery two days before mine and it was botched–they accidentally punctured the wrong spot and gave him an unexpected spinal tap. That leaked.  Last Friday, he came to visit me, called his doctor five minutes later, and spent the rest of the day in the ER. We’re a cheerful if rather sorry bunch.

Said Andrea, say no more. And so AlisonF and Julia of the Julia’s Shawl fame came over today, with Michelle telling me to lie down and take it easy (while not doing so herself) and them all cleaning away on the house. I can’t tell you how much better it feels–thank you!

I wanted to go pick them tomatoes as a thank you. I started towards the sliding door–and–most of them were gone. They were there yesterday, nice and big and bright and red and ripe.  But… But!!!

That does it. I am not knitting those raccoons any sweaters. So there.

Ungrateful rodents! Among a menagerie of misfits *)

You ALL take care 🙂

Richard minor surgery? Michelle on crutches? What on earth is going on around there? Well I pray for ALL OF YOU to get well. Enough is quite enough! And no, don’t knit anything for the raccoons!

How about a laugh or two!

NEW SUPERMARKET

The new updated supermarket near our house has an automatic water mister to keep the produce fresh. Just before it goes on, you hear the sound of distant thunder and the smell of fresh rain.

The veggie department features the smell of fresh buttered corn.

When you approach the milk cases, you hear cows mooing and catch the scent of fresh hay.

When you approach the egg case, you hear hens cluck and cackle and the air is filled with the pleasing aroma of bacon and eggs frying.

I don’t buy toilet paper there any more.

Two cars come nose to nose on a one lane bridge. One driver sticks his head out the window and hollers, “I don’t back up for idiots”. The second driver sticks his head out his window, and hollers back, “That’s okay; I do.”

My wife and I had words, but I didn’t get to use mine.

Frustration is trying to find your glasses without your glasses.

PASS THE NO-DOZ
Recently, our pastor fell asleep at the wheel and awoke just as he sideswiped a guardrail. When he got home, his wife peppered him with questions, trying to figure out what had happened.

“Were you sleepy when you started to drive?” she asked.

“No” he answered.

Then how did you fall asleep?

“I’m not sure,” he said. “There I was, going over my sermon…..”

Now, since trouble comes in 3’s, this medical stuff can stop now! Let us know if you need a grocery run or basic supplies of any kind, or just a ride in a car that goes out of the driveway.

Wonderful! So often help is offered when it isn’t needed, or declined when it is. Glad the stars all aligned and everyone is better for it…that is, except the raccoons!

ungrateful raccoons would probably say the sweaters were itchy anyway.

Comment by Tola 08.15.09 @ 4:50 am

Goodness what a crew! Are you living in a MASH tent instead of a house?

Let’s hope the raccoons get tummy aches!

I’m so so glad you got the help you needed. Thank you AlisonF and Julia!

I’ve been sending get well wishes to you, Alison. Now I’m sending them to Richard and Michelle, too. Hope you all make speedy, uneventful recoveries.

hmmm, I don’t know which is worse — hail ruining my tomatoes before they got ripe or the racoons picking yours — not a good thing either way! (Oh, yeah, I wouldn’t knit them any sweaters either although the mind picture of racoons in sweaters is definately amusing!)

Oh boy! I send hopes that all of you are mending swiftly and NOT overdoing. May blessings drop lightly but generously on AlisonF and Julia’s heads.

Isn’t there a raccoon yarn by now? Too far??

Comment by Michelle 08.15.09 @ 7:55 am

Once again, I wish I could just come over and help out. Thank goodness you’re covered! Bless those ladies that helped out.

Tomatoes over here are all getting wiped out by blight. I am not sure which I’d prefer, raccoons or blight!

Comment by karin maag-tanchak 08.15.09 @ 8:57 am

Glad you drew the line! You’ve got plenty of projects for those that don’t steal your tomatoes…dratted raccoons!

More and more wishes for healing, rest, and smiles for all of you.

I told you already, next time those family medical issues should be placed in sequence, not parallel.

Allowing people to help you may be hard for an independent person/family but you yourself know that it feels nice to help, so accepting assistance makes every one feel better!

Sam sends the cutest care packages!

I’m so sorry to hear your whole family is currently out of commission…my heart goes out to all of you but, how neat you have such good friends! I’m sure you all appreciate their kindness, thoughtfulness and hard work but, ummmm, did anyone happen to think to bring food? 🙂
Sorry to hear about your tomatoes…it’s odd that animals go for them…I don’t like fresh tomatoes but, one year, our outside cats ate most of my parents’ tomatoes…secretly, I was a bit thrilled but, we were all surprised.
Hope you and your family all recover very soon. You’ve all had a very difficult summer…I think the summer of ’09 will be memorable for all of you! I’m also sure Richard appreciated receiving an extra brain cell…we can never have too many of those. 🙂 (They aren’t very attractive though, are they? 🙂
Best wishes (and praying for you all too),
Abby

Ooh, the little rotters! (The raccoons, not your friends or family!)

My mother finally gave up trying to grow sweet corn because of the raccoons- it never failed, the very day before she was planning to pick it, they’d eat every blessed ear.

Comment by RobinH 08.15.09 @ 2:25 pm

I am so far behind, I hardly know which way is up!
When I left this saga, you were the only one up for medical attention that I know of. Obviously, I have some serious reading to do. It sounds as though you are healing well, and I certainly do hope so!

Comment by Ruth 08.15.09 @ 5:19 pm

Family medical issues are never patient…they never wait in line…they just all rush through the door you thought you shut all at once. Prayers for speedy healing for all of you:)

Comment by TripletMom 08.15.09 @ 7:14 pm

I hope you’re all recovering nicely – except for those greedy raccoons. I hope they have ulcers in their mouths, like the ones I get when I eat too many tomatoes.

Comment by Channon 08.16.09 @ 9:10 am

Let’s hope that this is the last of all your health ordeals! Good grief…

Sending prayers to all of you for a speedy recovery. And for peace and quiet after that.

I guess the racoons don’t see any farther than their noses huh? If they knew how nicely you reward good behaviour, I’m sure they’ld leave your garden alone.

Made you smile? 😉

Comment by Suzanne in Mtl 08.17.09 @ 5:34 am

Good… that serves those racoons right…

Tee hee hee I love your care package! It’s bursting with love!

Comment by Alicia 08.18.09 @ 10:59 am

Hey, that’s totally not why I sent the neuron. It was because dad’ s surgery had to do with nerve problems, not because I was trying to imply a need for more brain cells…
