Juvenile peregrine theme song

With apologies to Paul Simon (and an extra verse added by special request of the peregrine group)…

The problem is all inside your wings, Clara said to Kya
The answer is easy if you practice, and eventually…
I’d like to help you in your struggle to fly free
There must be fifty ways to leave your louver.
Fifty ways to leave your louver.

Dive out of the way, Jose. Set a flight plan, Esteban. Watch your Clara, Tierra. And set yourself free.  Look and fly clear, Veer. Try it today, Ilahay! Just hop off the ledge. Fledge. And set yourself free.

The watchers said it grieves us so that Carlos went astray
We wish there were something we could do, to make him show again
But Esteban is here. A peregrine papa too, now, teaching,
Fifty ways to leave your louver.  Fifty ways to leave your louver.

Dive out of the way, Jose. Set a flight plan, Esteban. Watch your Clara,
Tierra. And set yourself free. Look and fly clear, Veer. Try it today,
Ilahay! Just hop off the ledge. Fledge. And set yourself free.

Glenn said it’s really not my habit to intrude
But the more I see you’re grounded and your directions misconstrued–
Don’t want to box you in. But at the risk of being rude
There must be, better ways to leave your louver. Better ways to leave your louver.

Dive out of the way, Jose. Set a flight plan, Esteban. Watch our Clara, Tierra. And set yourself free.  Look and fly clear, Veer. Try it today, Ilahay! Just hop off the ledge. Fledge. And set yourself free.

Tierra said why don’t we all just sleep on it tonight
And I believe in the morning, we’ll begin to see some flight
And then Veer kicked her. And she realized, they probably were right
There must be, fifty ways to leave your louver.
Fifty ways to leave your louver.

Dive out of the way, Jose. Set a flight plan, Esteban. Watch our Clara, Tierra. And set yourself free.  Look and fly clear, Veer. Try it today, Ilahay! Just hop off the ledge. Fledge. And set yourself free.

A side note. My son John got T-boned by someone speeding fast, totaling both cars. He lucked out in that his passenger wasn’t hurt and only John’s shoulder got reinjured: it was operated on after a high-school wrestling team injury a few years ago.  He hurts, but oh goodness.  Thank you dear God for saving the life of my child and the others.

And of course, since he’s not currently a full-time student while on a mission for the Mormon Church, our insurance won’t cover him even though we pay the same premium as before he left. But that’s just noise at the moment compared to what matters.

I’m so glad John’s not any more injured than that!

Love your rendition of Paul Simon’s song.

Also, thank you Lord for protecting Alison’s son and passenger.

I’m so glad his injuries are as minor as they are! Prayers for speedy healing on the shoulder & that the insurance woes won’t get any worse than noise:)

Oh my goodness! I’m so glad he’s okay.

I hope John will heal fast and well. This is a miracle. You know there is a Jewish custom of giving a few coins to charity every time one sets out on the road.
Love your song.

Prayers and best wishes for a speedy healing for John.

Groans for the song. Our eldest would call that a “filk” song…a parody using the original tune. It would only encourage you if I told you it was good (but it was). 🙂

Oh, dear! I’m so glad John and everyone are ok. That’s worth a few prayers of thanks, for sure. Good job on the Paul Simon rendition, too!

I’m slow on the uptake today: health insurance won’t cover an auto accident, but the auto insurance will. It should come from the driver at fault’s coverage, but I’ll bet he was uninsured. Still, if John is an insured driver with your insurance, he’s covered.

Comment by Barbara-Kay 06.10.09 @ 7:08 pm

glad the accident was not worse, and I adore the song, I think its too cute!!!

Comment by grace 06.10.09 @ 8:56 pm

Alison, in a motor vehicle accident, the auto insurance is primary, the health insurance will only cover treatment to be repaid in subrogation, so while it’s handy to get things going faster, they would probably demand proof of auto insurance or the lack thereof before he could be treated. If you have health insurance and there is not covering auto insurance, they have to cover the injury, but only then. I’m sure there will be decent auto insurance. I’m so glad John is still with us! and that the others in the car are okay. John will be all right too.

John needs to check with his Mission President. My son is leaving to go on a mission in 22 days. His papers say the church will pay itemised medical bills if they aren’t exisiting medical problems.

Comment by Andrea 06.10.09 @ 10:46 pm

Oh dear! I’m glad to know that John and his passenger weren’t too badly hurt. Healing prayers for both him and you too.

Love the song – and now it’s running through my head…

Who’s Paul Simon?

Adding my prayers to the others in thanks for relative minor injury and in hope for a speedy recovery.

Thank you for sharing the song adaptation: made me smile this morning!

Comment by Suzanne 06.11.09 @ 5:22 am

Wonderful news the injuries were
minor. Dealing with the accident is
just a minor inconvenience compared
to the alternative.

Comment by Sue H 06.11.09 @ 6:45 am

Love the song, but thank God John is safe! Hopefully his recovery will be swift and uneventful – including the lack of insurance stuff.

Comment by Channon 06.11.09 @ 6:58 am

Glad to hear that John’s okay.
And I loved the song – but that’s my sense of humour…

Comment by Sandra 06.11.09 @ 7:15 am

Prayers of gratitude and hope that his pain will ease off and that he will recover fully.

Comment by sherry in idaho 06.11.09 @ 8:24 am

Glad to hear that John and his passenger aren’t hurt worse – and the person who T-boned them should be paying all the damages! Both to the people and to the vehicle. So there.

We were T-boned many years ago, more damage, but all humans survived. Go after the other driver.

Comment by Margo Lynn 06.11.09 @ 10:31 am

Thank Heaven John was not seriously injured! But, Alison, what OTHER talents are you hiding from us?
Prestidigitation? Screen play writing? Bungee jumping?

Okay, humaaaaa:

I had emailed this story yesterday, and thought it might make a good posting:

Funny story out of true life: when I (Don)was promoted to the seventh grade, our class had a music teacher. When I told the family about this, I was asked how old she was. “Oh, middle aged, about 30,” was my reply. This drew howls of laughter from the family. Well, heck, I figured if 60 was old, then 30 was middle age. Made sense to ME.

Comment by Don Meyer 06.11.09 @ 10:36 am

Actually, Don… I once got an excited email from another knitter, asking if I were the Alison Hyde who’d written the screenplay for the Helen Hunt movie that… And I was going, there’s another one of me out there? It’s not that common a name! Huh.

Comment by AlisonH 06.11.09 @ 10:41 am

I hope John recovers quickly. When my Richard was a missionary in Alaska, he and his companion were T-boned by a moose. Fortunatley it was a young one, only six feet tall. The experience was fatal for the moose, but the young men were uninjured. They were in a brand new pickup truck that sustained dents and two broken windows, but had they been in the sedan the truck replaced, they would have joined the moose as fatalities. They stopped and attempted to render first aid. When it became apparent that the moose was dying, they did the Alaska thing–they called the road-kill hotline to come pick it up so the meat could be properly butchered and given to the needy. No point in wasting anything.

I hope he feels better soon. Glad to hear everyone is ok. Good luck with the silly business.

Comment by Alicia 06.11.09 @ 1:49 pm

Sorry to hear of your son’s accident, but glad it wasn’t worse!

Insurance makes me really annoyed…there was a time when my sister was out of work when I’d gladly have paid for a family plan to cover her- except that it’s not allowed…you can only cover yourself, a spouse, and dependants (up to a certain age, if they live with you, if Saturn is above the ecliptic…argh!)

Comment by RobinH 06.11.09 @ 2:22 pm

Arrgh! T-boning is no fun, I’ve been there. I am so glad he is OK. Keep us updated as you are able.

Your yarn is finally going in the mail today, I am sorry it’s not there yet.

Comment by karin 06.12.09 @ 5:31 am

Marian is correct–auto pays everything, up to their insurance limit. No worry about him not being on your coverage. Just be *very* thankful he’s basically OK.
Your birdy punning is cracking me up. Glad I’m not in an egg. 😉
