My aunt

imgp7271My Aunt Rosemary passed away this afternoon after a long fight with cancer.  My mother flew home last week and went to her older sister’s house right away and had a good visit with her, telling us afterwards that she was surprised at how energetic Rosemary was.

And I thought, yes.  Been there.  When you are very ill and then someone shows up who loves you, it is a very strengthening thing, both physically and emotionally.

Two days later, Rosemary had a stroke and was unable to speak, so we’re very glad Mom got that time with her when she did and the chance to create the memories she now shares of that day with two of Rosemary’s daughters.

The world will be a quieter place without Rosemary’s storytelling. She will be missed.

Please accept my condolences. This does not seem to be the appropriate time to crack jokes.

When you get back to knitting I will actually have something to say.

I join with you in wishing your Aunt Rosemary great happiness as she moves on to the next world where I’m sure many people have been waiting for her. And I’m sorry for those of you who have to feel sad as you are left behind for a time.

I thought the same thing that Madeline did. What an emotionally difficult few months this must have been for your mother. I’m sorry for the loss of her sister and yet relieved that at least she’s been able to watch you make so much improvement.

I’m very sorry, Alison. It’s so hard to lose those we love but, I am glad your mother had such a nice visit with her and has the memories herself and the stories to share with everyone else who loved her too…and also glad your aunt had that visit too…I’m sure it was a great joy and comfort to her – maybe moreso than anyone will ever know.
Thinking of you today,

My aunt, my mother’s only sister, died several years ago after a battle with cancer. Shortly after her cancer returned, she returned to our area to visit her son and she and my mom had a daylong visit one Saturday. I had driven Mom over, so I sat out in the living room knitting while they chatted in the guest room. It was fun to hear them laughing, giggling, and debating the hours away. Their relationship was not always peaceful, but they truly shared a bond that could not be broken. When my aunt entered Hospice, her daughters strictly rationed everyone else’s contact with her, which distressed my mom. But, as she stated, at least they had had their one, perfect day.

I’m so glad that your mom got that last, precious time with her sister.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Comment by Shirley 04.08.09 @ 6:40 am

May she continue to bring you bright and happy memories and her stories live on in the retelling.
Love ya. Give your Mom (and Dad) a long-distance hug for me.

I’m sorry for the loss of your anut. Even tho we have the gospel and know where they are and that we will see them again, the loss is still hard, because we miss them. I will pray for the peace and comfort the Lord gives at times of loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.
