Changing of the guard (Hi, Mom!)

From Debbie and MichelleSam flew home last night; Mom flew back in this morning.  My family’s taking good care of me for a little while longer.

Mom and I went to Purlescence’s Knit Night tonight, where I cast on my new Casbah yarn, started to knit, looked at it funny a moment, counted about forty-leven times, started another row, stopped, took it back off the needle, frogged, chatted, cast on, and started to knit again–but mostly we just chatted. (Hence the frogging.)  People time!  And we all flirted shamelessly with Meg’s cute baby.  When someone I didn’t know complimented my shawl and asked if I’d made it, I proudly told her, no, Mary did.

On our way out the door, Nathania told me, Hang on a second–and handed me this  lovely get-well card card from Michelle in Ohio and this cool little tote by Debbie R that would have been perfect tonight for my small project and many a doctor’s waiting room.

Good to be out and about, and spoiled on top of that!  Watch it you guys, I’ll be insufferable before you know it.

My, you are getting spoiled, but I guess you deserve it. People time is good. All that knit stuff I don’t understand. Am I the only male responder at this site? Ah, well, joke time:

This is the story of the salesman driving along an old dusty back road in farm country. He’s going about 25-30 mph when all of a sudden something that looks like a chicken goes past him doing at least 40. And it looks like it has 4 legs! The salesman is awfully curious, so he pulls in at the next farmhouse, and as luck would have it, the old farmer is sitting on his front steps. “Excuse me,sir, but I could have sworn that a 4 legged chicken went past me on the road.”

“Yup, shore did”, says the farmer. “We raise
’em. Everyone wants a drumstick.”

“They any good?” inquires the salesman.

“Don’t know. Ain’t caught one yet”

Enjoy every minute of it. You have most assuredly earned it! I’m glad your mom got there before you did anything too wild & crazy;)

Don, my grandfather took up crocheting after he retired and made several impressive striped afghans! Maybe you should give knitting a go? Washcloths are a way to start!

Alison, hopping through your links I spotted that one skein lace scarf and now I have a problem: I don’t know whether to use the pretty dyed yarn I’m getting from Amanda to make my daughter some fingerless mitts or that scarf. Hmmmm.

So glad you have more “help” and are able to go to knit night. I miss being able to go to knit night every week. I’m just not the same without it.

Forty eleven times? You wouldn’t be a John Denver fan, would you?

Don, my father-in-law, now deceased, was in the army in WWII, stationed in England in advance of the official entry of the US into the war. He took up knitting to fill the time while waiting for action; he was in the D-Day invasion force eventually. We used to have a small throw rug he had crocheted. When my mother-in-law died before accomplishing her goal of making each of her married children a tied quilt, he did them, using 3-inch gingham (easy to see where you should put the ties). Ours is golden yellow and on our bed. So you could be a manly man and still try some needle skills. And I love the jokes.

And Alison–I had a roommate who would be so overwhelmed when her friends would band together generouly in her behalf, like on the occasion of a wedding shower, that she would say, “I’m so spoiled that I’m going to smell.” She was too much of a sweetheart for that to ever be true, and the same goes for you. Enjoy our enjoyment of you, you certainly “spoil” others very gladly.

Alison, you won’t mind if I make a comment to Lynn and Marian.

Young ladies, I don’t go around bragging or complaining about this, but I am handicapped, and have the use of only one hand. Thank Heaven my right hand is the good one ’cause I’m right handed.

Be as insufferable as you like. Long as you’re doing better healthwise.

OMGosh I just choked on my water.

You insufferable? Ha! That’s about as likely as a bright yellow SmartCar showing up on my door step tomorrow with the keys and a title in my name.

While I’m dreaming, I’d like a pony too. 😉

You are loved my dear.

Nah, you’ll never be insufferable. You deserve every bit!

Alison,

It has been really fantastic to see you out and about the last few weeks! Any time you want to adore Amailah, or cuddle her, let me know! I’m happy to arrange the presence of a baby for you 🙂

I thought the small tote bag would come in handy. Glad to learn you have a use for it. I shared some of your anecdotes with friends this weekend, and your book. One had to have her own copy and we found it at Monarch Knitting in Pacific Grove. Take care.
