Go Mom!

Mom’s here, Mom’s here!

The doctors have been very reassuring.  Symptoms are being better controlled today, and I’m hoping tomorrow’s finally the day re starting the Humira.

I’ve been picturing all the people who needed there to be another, better med on the market that didn’t yet exist, praying for help.  And picturing a researcher or two with a sudden hunch that felt so right that they pursued it, culminating in this class of meds that makes such a difference to so many people.  The way I see it, there are two miracles at work here: the initial impulse. And the willingness of some human being out there to follow up on it to see where it would lead, hoping it would do good.

And how.

My cheerful, helpful, wonderful mother has more energy than I do on one of my best days and is perfectly happy talking to us and making us laugh while I rest up.  Hey, Dad, thank you for loaning her to us!

I’m sorry you are not feeling well, but I’m glad your mom made it up there, I know she will have you feeling better in no time. Mom’s are just like that :).

I’ve been down in the stacks of the NIH library. So many journals extending so far back in time. All of them representing the work of researchers. Like the one who noticed that the fatigue in some teens with chronic fatigue has the same quality as the fatigue in teens who faint. I can’t thank them enough. You’ve got me going now. I’m not sure I ever finished the book about the history of medicine told through short biographies.

Not to give moms short shrift of course…

Yay your mom! You lucked out with a good one (and are clearly a fine one yourself). Fingers crossed for the Humira.

I’m so glad to hear things are getting better for you. We can tell you are ill… you are saying “Go Mom” when, obviously, you don’t want her to Go anyplace! Good thoughts have been coming your way from us.

I am often grateful (and amazed) that there was someone in the world willing to do the work to produce the drugs I take for granted. I am so not a science person, I can’t imagine how badly off this world would be if everyone were like me. I don’t understand how someone can aspire to be a research scientist or a doctor; but I sure am glad they do!

I’m smiling at the news of your improvement. If you need a day to rest, would your Mom be willing to post?

Comment by LynnM 01.07.09 @ 1:13 am

Thank goodness for Moms. Just thinking about Mom when we’re sick is enough to make us feel way better, but when she is there with us, it makes a huge difference, doesn’t it?

Glad you’re feeling a little better each day. I pray the Humira will help, too!

Hot Dog – I’m glad she’s there and you, of course, will start feeling better! Tell her that we all appreciate her, okay?

Sometimes only Mom will do. Hugs and prayers from Texas.

@RobinM: there is research on teens who faint? I had a couple of those. I would like to know more…

Comment by Lynn 01.07.09 @ 5:04 am

Oh, I can tell you feel better already just having mom there. I think you have turned the corner and are now on the road to feeling better real soon. It’s the waiting that is so difficult.

Comment by Joansie 01.07.09 @ 5:17 am

Don’t forget all the folks willing to test new drugs. For many, being a part of a research study is a dream come true, because the new stuff does what the FDA approved, Rx company marketed things won’t…

Between your mom and the Humira, you’ll be back to your best in no time!

Wishing you a quick recovery and the patience to endure until then. And the ability to knit soon.

My, that’s wonderful good news that you’re better! Just having your mother there must have been a great relief. 🙂 Thank the Lord!

Whew, am I glad to hear you’re feeling better today.
Oh and can I be adopted by your mom? I’m sure one more won’t make so much of a difference? 🙂

Now, is it the doctors and their treatment that has you a teensy bit better or is it The Power of Mom?

Glad you’re inching your way back.

Comment by Lene 01.07.09 @ 8:13 am

Knew your Mom would make you better, after all that is what they are made to do. So glad that you are feeling better, keep up the good work. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs Bonnie

Yay for moms! That’s some of the best medicine there is while you’re waiting for the Humira…

Comment by Jocelyn 01.07.09 @ 10:40 am

Hi Mom!!!

Isn’t having a great mom the best! My mom was among that group and so many times I just want my Mom too.

Fingers crossed for Humira – and that it helps quickly — still sending those prayers and thoughts out for you …

I’m so glad that you are feeling better, and that you have the kind of mother who makes things better for you when she is there. X

Comment by Anna 01.07.09 @ 11:09 am

It’s good to have someone around who is Momniscient and Momnipotent. Too bad we can’t bottle it.

I have fainted a number of times, both as a teen and as an adult. If Lynn wants to hear about it, you can give her my email address.

Comment by Laura 01.07.09 @ 11:54 am

I’m so glad your mom is there with you! Somehow having mom around makes things seem so much better. I hope you get to start the new meds tomorrow. 🙂

Comment by AmyS 01.07.09 @ 12:23 pm
