I’m casting on a smaller project to have a more portable one to throw in my purse while hoping that doesn’t mean I’ll run out of knitting to play with.  You never know.

Trade in an old decade or two and you get to report into the DMV in person.  They want to know: has anything on my license changed since they issued the original in ’87?

Well, the hair isn’t brown anymore.  And the height–I could stand an extra inch there, don’t you think?  How about that birthdate.  The ’50’s are so…so ’50’s.  I don’t even remember them anyway.  Bag it.

They now let you make appointments beforehand, supposedly so you don’t have to stand in long lines.  The automated phone system, though, wanted me to go to the Redwood City office–which happens to be closed.  It’s being remodeled.  I think I’ll try again.

On hold… I think whoever programmed their system to play an eight-second song while you wait was very, very optimistic.

Bag that. Try online.  Okay, got it, hit the confirm button–

–and get random computer squigglings.

Good old DMV.  Still its same old self.  After all these years, isn’t it good to see: it hasn’t changed a bit.

(Edited to add: the one back home in Maryland was pretty good, actually.)

Oy. This doesn’t bode well. I have to go in for a title transfer. Have fun.

Yep, good ol’ DMV. Thankfully, I haven’t had to redo mine even though I was born in the 50s, and I don’t mean the late 50s, either. 😉

Government, at any level, resembles the chaos they claim to be the anitdote to!

My license doesn’t expire for two more years, and the picture depicts someone who weighs 120 lb. more than I do! What’s truly spooky is that clerks who ask to see my license completely accept the picture as being me!

Husband went to renew driver’s license: flunked eye test. Now, after cataract surgery, doesn’t even wear glasses and got license. I am casting on a baby hat to work on tomorrow while daughter is having test to confirm? need for gall bladder surgery.

I’d experienced enormous DMV bureaucracy and waiting in Virginia, North Carolina, and New York. Imagine my surprise when I moved to Kentucky. We called the # to ask what we needed to get a license. A person answered. She kindly listed what we needed, and then said, “Oh, and I recommend you come in tomorrow; the computers are down today. We open at 8, call before you come tomorrow just to make sure the computers are working.something might still be on the blink.” We were stunned. A helpful human? The next day, we were more stunned…only one person ahead of us in line, a personal interaction and photo (complete with instructions for how not to look bad) and then–voila–a license for each of us. Stunned…that’s what it is like to move to a smaller town/state. Weird.

That is one of the most dreaded of errands. Hope the waiting is minimal.

We often choose to visit one in a small town within reasonable distance. The larger ones are always crowded to bursting, but usually there are less than a dozen people at the ones in the smaller towns, much more enjoyable and well worth the extra ten minute drive.

LOL… You and MJ could have your own little DMV frustrations group… (I’ll join in June.)

Surprisingly, our local DMV really isn’t bad at all. There’s usually no more than 3 people ahead of you and the workers are nice. Can’t say that about the neighboring DMVs though.Oh well…at least we lucked out here…

Starting to wonder if you got lost there.
