Going, going...And in a moment you won’t.  I think.  I could just keep going as it is and knit a perfectly nice shawl. Only problem is, I want this exact yarn to go into that exact new idea and it doesn’t in its current state. I was swatching and swatching and swatching with a different yarn to the side last night, feeling restless with how I’d planned the thing even though it was a perfectly good idea, and at bedtime, having finally figured out my way through to just exactly what I wanted, I was skipping down the hall like a little kid: I DID it! I GOT it!  This is SO cool!

Only, I didn’t entirely yet–I have to frog this down to row four and have a do-over.  Part of me says oh just go knit that idea in something else and let this one be, there’s nothing wrong with it.

Except, I don’t want to.  I want THIS yarn to be the new idea. So there.  Because I’m the mommy. I said so.  Frog it.

…Tomorrow.  Lemme think about it first.  (Casting on to test the new idea in yet another yarn, and then…)

Moral of the story: and *this*, children, is why we have stashes.  Basic playground equipment is essential.

(Edited to add: I did it.  I took it all the way back to zero and got it past the frogging point again.  It was so worth it.)

I am a firm believer in frogging.

There. We’re justified. Thank you for explainin’ the yarn store in my house. 😉

Congrats on the new idea! Oh, your next book is going to be a doozie! Can’t wait.

Alison, I’m glad you can enjoy the victory of persistence and have your knitting exactly the way you want it. Can’t wait to see the finished project.

That’s me right above this comment; had to redo my info & forgot to add my mountains…it’s early here.

as much as I hate that first frogged stitch, once it’s done, I’m always happy I did it.

I just read “Knitting Without Tears” for the first time (I know, I know..) you’re the BOSS of your knitting.

You know, frogging caused me great pain until lace. I can’t explain it, but since I started knitting lace, ANYTHING can be ripped back to the start without much more than a second glance. The colors are lovely, and I look forward to seeing what this grows up to be!

Wow that is beautiful. I have been reading you since Chan asked you about her to be gifted shawl. I have been wanting your book – it’s on my birthday list 🙂 Lovely shawls, beautiful yarn. I can’t wait to see how this one grows up. Oh, I also love how you display them – guitars, and what other non-traditional item did I see wearing a shawl – it was fabulous! g
