Thank you, everybody, for your kind words and thoughts. I could picture my doctors breathing a sigh of relief that I didn’t get out into that crowd after all. And yes, I could really relate to Lene’s comment: there are occasional days where I just want to demand, can’t I just chuck this lupus/Crohn’s thing? Just for one day?! I used to walk miles every day at a brisk clip for the sheer enjoyment of taking in the world on a fine day out there. I might have risked that walk from the parking anyway, if it hadn’t been for the worry and pain it would have caused my Richard. But I just couldn’t do that to him.

But hey. All the more reason to look forward to Stephanie’s next book. She sent me encouragement when I was going nuts during the final proofs stage of my own book; she’s such a good soul.

I woke up this morning and looked up at my sweetie, already out of bed, and announced, “I’m going to pout.”

“Because you didn’t get to see Stephanie?”

He hunched down so we were eye to eye: “Here, I’ll pout with you.” And he put on this little-boy face–you know, eyes narrowed down to here, lower lip stuck out to there, that made me burst out laughing. I’ve got me a good one.

I try to take good care of him, too.

(Added later: if you’re curious to see some of what was going on at the Maker Faire, these photos were taken by the family of commenter RobinM.  I want to see that helicopter fly–with me in it.)

I have missed seeing Stephanie 2X (have still never seen her)… due to health reasons. I’ll pout along with you.

It sucks sometimes. Maybe its this weekend. I felt completely irritable all day yeasterday. For no reason at all. At least you had a good reason to be pissy. Hope it passes soon.

It’s not much fun to pout alone. It is so sweet of him to join you.

I’ll pout with you. The closest she’s gotten to me was over two hours away, and during the week, so I couldn’t go either.

Yep! He’s a keeper all right! Though, I think he’d say he hit the jackpot as well.

Alison, I’m sorry your weekend was such a let-down. I’m glad Richard decided to pout with you instead of telling you to get a grip and get over it. Sometimes pouting IS part of getting over it. It reminds me a little of a friend who was facing a C section years ago. She said she wanted her incision closed with stitches, which would hurt less, but her husband was insisting she go with staples, which would hurt a lot more, but leave less of a scar. I knew her husband well, and couldn’t imagine that he would care what sort of scar his wife carried from bringing their child into the world. I just couldn’t picture him being so shallow. Then my friend sighed and said, “He tells me he doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life listening to me complain about the ugly scar I’ve got.” You know, he was absolutely right. She would have cared later, even though he didn’t. Yes, it’s great when a spouse knows when to push, when not to push, and when to just have a good pout.
But let’s think on the bright side. You’re getting a daughter, and I’m sending out a missionary, so we have lots to look forward to!!
