They’re huge. They’re yellow. They live among the redwoods. And they are the unlikely mascot for the university a bit south of here.

A northern-Californian in-joke: at knitting group at Purlescence tonight, as someone was showing off their project, we envisioned the perfect piece of handknit clothing for UC Santa Cruz women to show their spirit for their school.

The banana shrug.

Loud groan heard in the bayous of Louisiana…and we’ve never even met a banana shrug/er/slug.

eeewwwwwuuuuuuue.

I’ve met Banana Slugs. They were horrible in Japan, climbing into my home from a nearby river, crawling unnoticed into my towel on the floor, dropping on my during an early morning hike. *shudder*
Slugs are one of my few HUGE phobias. I squeal and scream at the sight of the tiniest one here in my Michigan garden.
I MUCH MUCH MUCH prefer Banana Shrugs!!

I have visions of rows and rows of women in the bleachers covered in yellow s(l)(hr)ugs. (giggle)

Thanks for visiting my blog the other day. I’ve ordered your book and am looking forward it.

Ouch! Our former babysitter, a wonderful young woman and a knitter herself, just started her first year at UCSC. It’s time for me to start looking for some nice yellow yarn . . .
