Quarter pounder

Yesterday my husband and Karen and I drove hither and yon: Sugarloaf Mountain, Cunningham Falls, Catoctin Mountain Orchard (where we did indeed buy apples, and some of the biggest I have ever had) up near the Pennsylvania border, dropped by briefly to say hi to Kathleen, and called Bev: we’d forgotten to sign each other’s books. Hey! Great excuse! So we drove up north of Baltimore and took her out to dinner, where I found she’d had the same reaction I’d had to finding out we’d forgotten to: that we would get to see each other again while I was still out here. Not only that, but she and Karen hadn’t seen each other in 30 years. About time.

I wanted to mention: when I was packing for this trip, I thought, wow, that purse is heavy, and I pulled out my wallet and poured out all the change that had accumulated in there. There was a lot. No need for that to be weighing me down.

And then, though it made no sense to me and I was marvelling at why I was doing this as I did this, I sorted the quarters out and put them all back in. Not just one or two, but about five dollars’ worth. That’s a lot of weight and a lot of quarters, but they wanted to march right back into that wallet and so they did.

At Stitches East on Saturday, Lynn suddenly realized that she had no quarters to feed the meter to keep from getting a ticket, and her time was about up out there. She was stressing out about it, while I suddenly remembered that moment of sitting picking those quarters back up. I opened my purse and gave them all to her. It was enough to take care of the whole rest of the day, and she was set.

I can’t think of any time I have enjoyed a few quarters quite so much.

Ooh! They have the BEST apples! You’re making me want to go for a drive… 😉

I find the sheer weight of accumulated change to be amazing. Also, you can do a lot if you decide to spend that change, too! What a windfall you discovered! I’ve been thinking about you as you enjoy your time back east. Will I see you at Rhinebeck, perhaps?

No, I’m afraid not; we debated, and decided it would be a bit overboard for me, energy-wise, and with my lupus I can’t be out in the sun at all. Rhinebeck is a lot of outdoors, and it just doesn’t seem wise. I want to, though!

Sounds like a wonderful time. And
that was psychic how you “knew” to
keep those quarters!!!

Your life is a wonderful stream of fate. I really love that about you – and that you share those stories.

BTW, your yarn is on the way!

Good for you! I hope your stories encourage others to just do what the little voice or feeling tells them to do. There is always a good reason for it. Apples and friends, sounds like a good combination.

My favortie apples are Granny Smith.
I think I will have to take the kids to a pumpkin patch tomorrow or Friday. They have two days off from school.
Quarters are always a must, glad that you decided to keep them.

I always seem to have a couple of pounds of quarters on me at all times. They do get heavy.

Funny how things talk to us, if we’d just listen.

I had an umbrella last week that kept trying to get into my purse, but it weighed me down too. Finally I let it stay, and sure enough it downpoured as I left school that night. I would have been soaked to the bone if I didn’t have that umbrella.

Glad you are home safe and sound. I’m going to NY Sheep and Wool and I WILL find your book. I just wish you were there to sign it for me. 🙂

Isn’t it funny how that change accumulates. A few weeks ago, I wondered why my healthy-back purse had suddenly gotten so very heavy. I decided to clean it out and found about $9 in change there. I put it in our “change jar” and we decided to take our change jar and the kids’ piggy banks to the bank. They were able to put $50 each into their savings accounts and I got $75 from ours which I used for sock yarn.

I can not tell you how much those quarters meant right then… I got a ticket in Cambridge, MA once while finishing up a polymer clay demo. I think that ticket cost me almost the entire amount I’d earned that day.

You are such a generous soul… I had such a great time with you and the rest of your entourage.
