In honeyed tones

Heard at dinner last night: “So, which would you like on your” (acorn) “squash?”

“Not the bee barf, pass me the tree blood.”

Teenagers. Ya gotta love’em.

(No amaryllises were harmed in the staging of this picture.)

Edited to add: I have been corrected. It was the hubby who first called the syrup tree blood in the conversation.)

Gives new meaning to, “Honey, could you help me with this?”, doesn’t it?

We have a kid who once came home from middle school science class talking about bee barf and how that’s what it really is, and the description stuck. Silly people.

And then there is milk… my delinquents call it cow pus and you don’t even want to know about tapioca pudding/mastitis… Eeww. Ranch kids.

Last week I saw for the first time a doctor who is a native Argentinian. She had asked me to write a page or so describing what brought me to see her. As she was reading over my words carefully, she looked up and asked what barfictious meant.

I told her it was a word my friend and I used to describe feeling as though we were going to throw up, and usually indeed throwing up.

Dr. Davis took that in then said, “Barf does sound better than throw up, doesn’t it?”

Oh goodness, Anne, here I am suddenly picturing your children with salad dressing spilled all over them… Or do they prefer thousand island? (They’d have to leave Wyoming for that, though; try Minnesota, perhaps?

I’ve heard the bee one before, but I’d never heard ‘tree blood’. That’s brilliant. I laughed and laughed.

🙂 Oh, and happy birthday to Jennie!

Definitely ranch dressing. You know… “I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy, if I had an outfit I could be one too”
