Happy Monday

I have a number of last year’s amaryllis bulbs whose re-starting times I staggered this past winter, trying to have my favorite flowers for as long into the season as possible. Amaryllises in April. Kind of a flowery metaphor for teenagers sleeping in till noon (not that we know anything about that.)

Meantime, someone asked the Knitlist if she could make a scarf with 250 yards of yarn. Here’s what I did this weekend with about 125 yards, size 9 needles, fingering weight baby alpaca, and about three hours’ worth of time. Length: 56″.

That is a beautiful scarf.
Actually, I am looking for a scarf pattern right now. Is this one online?

Happy knitting,

Thank you! I got a good chuckle out of your question, given that my first lace shawls book is about to be released and I’m working on the next one, which will have a lot of scarf patterns for quick gift-knitting. But still: that particular scarf is basically Barbara Walker’s Little Arrowhead lace, nothing much original on my part, just a simple thing I can toss out easily in a day. If you don’t have them yet, I highly highly recommend Walker’s stitch treasuries, especially the first two. They are the reference library of knitting stitch patterns. You can probably google and find that particular one out there, but don’t miss out on the rest of what’s in those books.

I used a baby alpaca from Pacific Meadows Alpacas with more twist to the inch than most, giving it quite a bit of energy and a sense of texture, even after blocking.

Happy knitting!
