Thank you! That is a simple pattern, and there is an even simpler one, excellent for showing off a handpaint yarn and easy for beginners: the whole thing is a six-stitch-long lace repeat.

And yes, the book will be available with any bookseller that carries knitting titles.

I agree with you so much about the smile. Even in Interweave, it seems like a lot of the models have decided they need to look aloof. Taken to the extreme you end up with the alien-zombie look so prevalent in Vogue or Rowan. That is a great cover.

I wish I could understand the English (or American) “knitting codes”, but I don’t. I absolutely loved knitting as a teenager/young mother, but I haven’t touched a pair of needles since Elina was a baby about eight years ago. Anyways, I absolutely love your blog. It gives me happiness shots!

Monica, if it helps any, whenever you might get back to knitting, the patterns come in both written-out form and in charts, and there’s a glossary of terms for the written-out versions. And everybody–thank you so much!

Yes! When Stephanie was to speak in Berkeley, Jocelyn and Cris and I decided to drive up together, and on impulse, heading out the door, I threw several shawls in my bag. Good thing; the air conditioning was cranked up high, and those two were freezing. Well, hey. I could fix that.

There’s one shawl, simple to knit, that I gave in two sizes to help make it adaptable to lots of different yarns. I knitted the small version with a strand of Kidsilk Haze and one of Alpaca With a Twist’s Fino, together, for Sandi; there’s a picture several entries ago. (I wanted to use yarns specifically from her shop for it, and she was fresh out of cashmere in the right weight at the time. I owed her, bigtime.)

That’s thicker than the fingering yarns I mostly used in the book, so it came out quite large for a small person, but Sandi loved it–and it gives you an idea, meantime.
